this is definitely a love it or hate it kind of beer, but i loved it, one of my favorites from these guys so far. the base tripel is relatively intense, estery on the yeast side of things, cloyingly sweet on the malt and likely added sugar, also insanely robust on the lavender, not subtle in the least, but there is a synergy here that i really like, and while my buddy who tasted it found it to be way too much on all counts, i liked the way it came together! the intense perfume and floral sting of the lavender is polarizing i can see, but it works so good with the confectioners sugar element of the base beer, and the peary notes of yeast, like one of those trendy earl grey tea and lavender cupcakes that are making the hipster wedding instagram circuit, something about it just works. a little bitterness from the flowers is needed too, and its there, as well as a white wine and apricot complexion from the yeast along with he more obvious green pear, its bold and its fun. the right amount of boozy too, i think that part is a needed part of whatever balance exists here. i dont want a second glass of it, itd be too much of a good thing, but i think they really nailed this one, memorable and different, certainly not for everyone...

Amber brew with a modest foam. Not particularly aromatic. Very fruity and quite stout of body. I don’t taste much lavender, which is a good thing not to dominate the flavor with a very potent herb. A little bitter, more than a typical Tripel, and maybe that’s the herb.
Distinct bitter and yeasty aftertaste, with the drying finish. But quite sweet to start. From the 32 oz jug purchased at the brewput.
