i liked this because i wanted to like it, and all the beers in here. i like the global inspiration and the odd culinary ingredients they employ, even if the beers arent entirely expert. this one is loosely an english ipa, but like the basil ipa before it, i dont get much hops here at all, and i think to call it an ipa is a stretch. i do get some nice english grains on this one and a little old world flavor to the ale yeast its fermented with, but what makes this beer are the adjuncts, roasted acorn squash and fenugreek seeds. its highly fragrant, quite sweet, with hints of honey and maple to it, autumnal, sweet from the squash and sort of familiar at first, but it doesnt follow a normal trajectory for squash beers in that its no overrun with spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. instead the fenugreek gives it a cool earthy spice, indian without being curry, really interesting and an ingredient i would like to see used in beer more often. i wish it were a little hoppier and a little dried and a little more carbonated and that kind of maintenance stuff, but its a fun beer with a ton of flavor and its not way off from being pretty awesome. i really like this combination of ingredients and base beer style. well done conceptually for sure!
