Collaboration with Genesee Brewery
Genesee master brewer Dean Jones met with Young Lion’s head brewer Phil Platz to bring to life an amped-up version of Young Lion Stout! They increased the oat malt and replaced cocoa nibs with Majestic Dutch Cocoa powder and added chocolate truffle extract. This adds a stiff chocolate punch in both flavor and aroma.

Pours rich, velvety dark chocolate. SRM 38+, essentially black, in a Spieglau IIPA glass. One half inch of fine foam falls to a ring, leaving a coating of light chestnut lace.
The aroma is remarkably similar to salted chocolate and caramel. Roasted malt and chocolate are clear against a background of non-descript aromas.
Roasted malt bitterness opens and holds throughout the first sip and the entire session. Bitterness is out of balance with the sweetness. Baker's chocolate is stronger, and, other than the almost burnt malt roast, none of the other aromas come through. The finish is long and mild, consisting entirely of bitter, Baker's chocolate.
A scratchy, wool texture works well with the medium body. Alcohol and fine carbonation are as expected,
Unfortunately, the flavors did not live up to the aromatics. Mind you, this did not prevent me from enjoying all three cans and being grateful to Mary. This is a decent beer to enjoy after a day's work.

On tap at The Old Toad in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a pretty dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like milk chocolate, marshmallow, vanilla, and dark chocolate.
At least one of these breweries is good, so this came out basically half good. The chocolate flavor is nice, the but the flavors fades away and falls thin on the back end. The slight marshmallow character is nice, and there's a good bit of roast.
This is light bodied, creamy, and clean, with a good drinkability.
I was mostly interested in the Genesee side of this. It was enjoyable but I don't need to revisit.
