I've had a range of beers aged in red wine barrels, but this is probably the most distinctive one. However, that's not necessarily a good thing. It's been aged for 17 months and is consequently drowning in wine tannins and dry, vinous astringency. I occasionally get hints of an English barleywine lurking underneath the surface, and it's intriguing overall, but it borders on making me think something else is going on that's unintended post-bottling.
