We're thrilled to announce our latest collaboration with Goose Island Beer Co. Drawing inspiration from their pioneering work in barrel-aged beer, we crafted a double barrel-aged barleywine together.

Blending our styles, we brewed a beer using a huge bill of Marris Otter and caramel malts, complemented by Belgian candi sugar and then double barrel-aged the brew in Elijah Craig rye barrels. After 28 months, Tusk & Feather: Rye emerged, boasting a complex blend of caramel, butterscotch and a rye whiskey finish.

Cellared a year and drinking really nicely. Completely opaque dark brown pour with a mushroom colored ring. Bourbon, rye, barley, molasses, raisin lead the nose, with supporting tones of brown sugar, booze, old leather. Taste is boozy with rye and bourbon powerfully up front to start, then running all the way to the end while acquiring tones of molasses, raisin, date, slight anise and toffee, with a whisper of tobacco. Feel is boozy yet smooth, very thick but drinks lighter for a ba barleywine, rye and barley flair on the end is pleasantly warning.

Oh man this is intense. Lots of rye spice and oak come through combining to create a strong tobacco vibe. This spicy tingle suffuses through every aspect of this, as if I'm enjoying this in a walk in humidor. The charred caramel, dried fruit, boozy vanilla, pumpernickel bread, and more. Not quite as good as the GI version but this is quite a treat.

500 ml bottle into a snifter. A 2024 release, had 3/23/24.

Pours a dark amber color, mostly opaque, with a sizzle of a head and no real lacing. Aromas of caramel, rye whiskey, malt, light vanilla and raisin, a little brown sugar, white grape as it warms. Flavors of rye whiskey, caramel, malt, light raisin, a little brown sugar and vanilla, and again, white grape as it warms. Smooth, thick for a Barleywine, a solid medium body, appropriately carbonated.

Pretty delicious. Has a strong barrel presence, it’s aromatic and flavorful and I liked the thicker feel. The grape notes are interesting, would expect that in the brandy version, not here.
