Handfuls of flaked rye impart a bready spice that interweaves with caramel malts to provide malt depth but create a crisp dry finish.

Oh man, now that was a tricksie one. @FBarber sent me this during NBW BIF #13, and sent it as a mystery beer, meaning it was wrapped in aluminum foil and I had no idea what it was as I drank and tried to guess what I was drinking and review at the same time. What a doozie!
Thanks Frank!
Poured a beautiful honey-amber colour, though fairly cloudy overall. Nice finger and a half or so of white head that settled into a buzz cut.
Nose made me think (blind) of fermented honey... with elements of spice and citrus and almost floral/perfume-y hops that I've mostly experience previously in NJ based IPAs, whether that means anything or not.
Yeast-forward up front that blind made me think of belgian yeasts (fruity/spicy), which I suppose the spicy side makes sense with the rye, but I can't quite account for the origins of the fruity/sweet component, though the style descriptor here explicitly lists fruity/grape-y as potential flavours for a kolsch, derived from the malts. Sure, I'll go with that. Earthy hops bring the finish forward, combining with the fruity and spicy notes.
Rich body with a somewhat abrupt finish that continues the earthy hops and fruity malts(?), interspersed with a lively carbonation that works well with said rich body.
Man that's a doozy to try and identify blind. I... was not particularly close. But I enjoyed the journey and the beverage, and so once again, Thanks Frank!

Taste: complex, cracker like yeast, flaked oats smooth out mouthfeel. big bready smoked cheese nose. Copper/amber hue, clear, delicate lace to head. Medium light body, but still more body than some Kolsch. 25 IBUs
