When I lived in the Netherlands (2000-2001), Ambacht was the beer sold at the local cheap markets like Aldi and Basis. By the crate of 24, it literally cost about 25 cents a bottle, once you factored out the deposit on the bottles. When you had consumed all of the beer, you brought back the bottles in their crate and paid about 10 guilders for a new crate full of beer. Heel fantastisch!
As for Ambacht itself: bearing in mind that it's been 13 years since I've had any, and given that it's production has been discontinued, I'm having to rely upon a memory that's at least somewhat clouded by the excellent marijuana and hash that was smoked at the time. Having said that -- I recall it being a very drinkable lager, with modest hoppiness -- more than a little like Grolsch's lager. Not quite as complex as Grolsch, and both a bit less dry and a with a somewhat brighter malt sensation with some vanilla notes. It had a modest head with some nice lacing, an aroma that included some fried banana and caramel, and a pleasant mouthfeel. I wish I had a case with me right now; I'd happily work my way through it.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
