473 mL can from the LCBO; coded A3123 (presumably Jan 31 2023) and served slightly chilled.
Pours hazy and translucent, its body golden-orange in colour and topped with nearly two fingers of puffy, foamy white head. A gorgeous coat of blobby, fractal-patterned lace sticks to the glass, with a lumpy, soapy cap and collar surviving for at least ten minutes. Vibrant, fruity, citrus-heavy aroma of lemon, grapefruit, orange zest and melon, with hints of grassy, floral hops and something tropical, maybe passion fruit.
The flavours are similar: I'm getting cantaloupe and grapefruit at first, with notes of pineapple, orange and berries not long after. Grapefruit and passion fruit on the back end, with piney, floral hop bitterness tying things up nicely; hints of citrus and tropical fruit into the aftertaste. Medium in body, with moderate carbonation that adds some crispness to this brew's otherwise smooth, soft mouthfeel. Great drinkability; I could enjoy a couple of these in a row, I think.
Final Grade: 3.82, a B+. Riverhead's Tropical IPA is good enough to get the job done. As an IPA in general, I appreciated the flavours and enjoyed it well enough, but that's just not enough to stand out in a field as crowded as this one. The 'tropical' moniker is also barely appropriate IMO, as I didn't find this to be any more 'tropical' than your average hazy Ontario IPA. Worth trying if you come across it fresh, but not a beer to search high and low for.

Got this at the LCBO.
From a 473ml can into a pint glass
APPEARANCE: Pours a big, three finger, medium-looser looking, fluffy white head with good retention. Hazy gamboge orange with no carbonation evident. Head slowly recedes to a full foamy cap and leaves some chunky lacing on the glass as it empties. Very foamy head.
SMELL: Pineapple, tropical notes, bubble gum and light caramel on the nose. Medium strength on this one.
TASTE: Tropical notes with melon and pineapple, piney flavors with lots of melon, cantaloupe and caramel flavors at the swallow. Bolder finish of melon, honey, lightly tropical flavors and plenty of hop bitterness lingers on the palate.
PALATE: Medium body and higher levels of carbonation. A bit foamy perhaps, goes down okay and finishes drier on the palate. Lots of bitterness lingers on the palate.
OVERALL: Okay, but not tropical enough and quite bitter for a supposedly New England style IPA. A bit too foamy as well. Not worth checking out if you see it. There are plenty of other NEIPAs that are more worth the effort.

Review from notes. 473 ml can into a pint glass.
A- dark copper coloured beer with a big two finger white head and more clarity than most new Ipas these days.
S- lots of citrus, grapefruit and orange with a bit of cantaloupe.
T- like the nose, fairly assertively bitter lots of grapefruit again.
M- medium bodied leaning towards full with sufficient carbonation for the style.
O- very solid ipa that I’m not adverse to picking up regularly.

Pours a classic gold colour with a thick and foamy head. Obvious tropical and citrus notes on the smell and on the taste. Strong hoppiness on the background. Nice level of carbonation
