my favorite beer from this establishment. funnily enuff it was brewed by accident. they were brewing a batch of their highwayman red ale and somehow managed to get a bag of roasted wheat in there and this is what came out the other side. and they say some of the great recipes were found through errors such as this, and here is a prime example.

reminiscent of fullers ESB, but more robust, its a slightly dark reddish brown with a creamy head that is light tan in hue. complex nose, with blasts of malt, citrus and dried fruits, and warming yeast aromas. lovely floral hops touch in there also. the taste is something else. its got awesome maltiness to it,a slightly spicy tinge, with a nice sweetness, nutty and buscuity, blended with fuityness that ends with with a fragrant dry hop finish. its a big beer that is beautifully balanced, and the wheat that has gone in there has just toned down the boldness of the flavour and dryness of the finish. its got a fair body too it as well. not thick or syrupy, but certainly heavier than your usual.

great thing about this beer is that despite the fact it doesnt muck around in trying to have an impact, you can still have a few pints and thoroughly enjoy it without feeling like youve been hit by a bus. my greatest fear is that when the next lot of kegs run out they wont brew it again. i can assure you ive been begging them like a hungry dog to keep it going, and hopefully they listen, coz theyve brewed one of australias finest here. pity its not exportable.
