12oz can from Boise Co-op. Black, inky pour, fizzy beige head. Aroma and taste are both coffee. Not much else. Like name says " Coffee Stout". That's it folks, move along, nothing to see here...

Cold Brew Coffee Stout

Coffee Stout
This beer has been sitting in the fridge for about a year. I have passed this beer up for another. Reading the label found out it is made with cold brew coffee. I used a nonic; the temperature was 46 degrees. A frothy light tan airy one-fingered head was created from the pour. The slow dissipation left no lacing on the glass. The color charts around SRM 34; used dark oily brown. The appearance of the beer is average for this style.
When I opened the can up, huge coffee aromas emitted. Nosing further, I detect char, leather, smoky fire, chocolate, bread, a hint of floral, and earthiness.
I taste chocolate, mild coffee, smokiness, fire, char, dark roasty malts, leather, earthy tobacco, toffee, herbal, and floral.
The mouthfeel is dry and bitter. The body is medium, low carbonation, and lasting but quick finish.
I have several issues with this beer. One, it drinks like a porter without the hops. The coffee does not come across as full-bodied; it seems like meh. I want depth in my coffee stouts and body to them. It does not need to be barrel-aged to make a great stout. This beer is running middle of the pack.

Still being brewed, apparently not retired; 12oz can poured into a nonic. Velvety mouthfeel, smooth creamy coffee, light body; slightly bitter, nutty, and smoky. Just fine for a coffee stout.

a tasty stout done with some decent coffee i can tell, looks like the abv has changed some from batch to batch, but this is not retired, its on tap at the brewery currently. its silky and rich, a little but sweet, quite hearty and wintery to me, even cozy, well made beer overall, these guys have a good thing going right now. this has some shine to it, more brown than black in shade, and with a short tan head on it. smells and tastes like chocolate and coffee together at the same time, lots of malt depth to this but without a ton of bitter roast either to the barley or the coffee, its mellow in that respect, but still has a lot of flavor. no bitterness at all, quite a bit of crystal malt body and sweetness, nice with the subtle raisin and dry cocoa from the coffee. this is smooth to drink, a little bit rich, but nicely proportioned and a solid beer overall. perhaps it could be a little more robust on the coffee, but i like the way this is built and think these guys are doing a really nice job on the whole. cool spot to hang too if you havent been yet!

2 ounce sample at Spokane Brewers Festival. Pours very dark brown with minimal loose foam. Aroma is strong coffee. Taste is more dark roast malt with distinct coffee notes.
