Draft at BitterCreek. What it lacks in taste, it makes up for in feel. Oatmeal smooths this out. Kind if dominates the taste too. No hops kick. But velvety.

a frothy white headed rust orange colored pale ale, oat based, and nicely hopped. fresh on tap at the brewery its a smooth and flavorful drinker, well refined, and a cool take on the style with the oats, different, even unconventional, but it works really well, especially in a colder weather context where a little more body and richness to a beer like this really is a nice feature. the hops here have some generic citrus quality, a light woodsy aspect, and seem fresh, hearty, and pretty bold, as much bitterness as aroma and flavor too, this is maybe on the edge of the ipa range, and there is some oily west coast linger to it as well which i like, the beer is still somehow quite crisp, dry, and clean to finish. there are some minerals in here, earthy and maybe lightly metallic, but the fermentation is tidy and complete and the whole thing is smoothed right out by the oats in here, so its never sharp or astringent or thinning at all or anything as a mineral profile like this can often be. i get a trace of honey in the middle, a baked bready warmth, and a great drawn out body to this, really nice. the carbonation pushes through the oats, and this drinks light but satisfying overall. nice balance, neat mix of flavors, bold hop profile, professional quality. a great introduction to this awesome brewery!

edit: they are canning this one now too with a big "opa" on the label, the first i have seen packaged from them, kind of goofy art but the beer is as good as it was when i first tried it. really tasty, drinkable, and distinctive, the oats do a lot for this, very solid, i hope they package some more!
