a little darker than anticipated, a pretty distinct beer in this space. past amber to the deepest shade of brick red, pushing brown even in low light, frothy off white head on it, good retention and lace, not quite clear, but i dont need my rye beer to be. the nose is nice, a bit sweet, liquid caramel to me along with the earthy rye character that is appreciable, some baked bread, almond, and toffee notes as well, warming and wintery, a little yeasty in a good way too, dynamic. the flavor is not quite as complex as it smells like it will be, i get a lot of malt sweetness in addition to the drier kilned malt layer, a graham cracker suggestion, and less spice from the rye than i expected, almost more like a generic amber ale in some ways, the nuance is subtle for sure, even though the flavor is robust overall, if that makes sense. fuller bodied, some teeth coating sweetness that is never quite resolved, and a little european thing to the yeast that i like. overall this is sturdy and decent, but could maybe stand more rye intensity and a little drying out. neat to see how these guys have grown since bursting onto the scene, nice to have some more diversity from them. this is best in a cold weather context i reckon.

This leans too close to an Irish red or a Scotch ale for my taste. The maltiness is great, but I'm missing the rye spiciness as this tastes overly sweet. I live close to this brewery, and I don't recall it being this insipid in person, but maybe I'm projecting. It's alright, but there are better rye beers out there.
Also, its ABV is listed as 5.8% on the can.

On-tap in Meridian ID and served in a pint nonic. Sits moderately cloudy in the glass, dark amber with a small off-yellow head. Lots of clean, malty rye notes; bready, somewhat earthy, minor sweetness, with subtle spiciness. Malty, clean, and smooth with a light-to-medium bitterness to offset.

Draft at BitterCreek. Welcome to Idaho’s newest brewery . Flat looking, medium amber. Malty aroma and taste, leaning towards the Irish style, not too much of the normal rye characteristics evident. Not much here, drinkable, but not special.
