12oz can cracked into my HotD snifter. A dark pour leads to a nearly opaque liquid in the glass with a small khaki head. Malty, roasty, and somewhat nutty, with an earthy dose of piney hops as well (reminiscent of Zeus or Bravo hops), as well as some espresso zingyness and spicy rye character. Overall a decent little black IPA with some nice notes of rye.

Taster with friends. Near black pour , small cap of beige head. Light, sweet aroma, light roasty malts. Taste is more of the roasty malts, nutty elements, smooth.

Pours thick, medium brown body, nice lacy light brown head. Looks like a stout. Smells like an IPA. Light pine resin, maybe just a bit of citrus. Taste begins with a bit of malt sweetness, leading to pine resin and citrus notes. Then, surprise, coffee on the finish. In fact as I take a break from sipping that coffee taste really comes out, along with a piney bitterness.
Feel is wet and creamy, and the finish is damn smooth.
This is my first Black IPA, so I don’t have much to compare it too, but I’m enjoying it quite a bit. The hops and malt are well balanced, and the finish is fantastic. Can’t ask for more than that.
