Rice Saison

The current version of this beer is 4.6% .abv not 4.2 like when the beer was first added. This is a mild, sessionable Saison. My main question is "Why use rice?" Rice and corn are the adjunct lager fillers used by Budweiser et al in place of more expensive ingredients. Rice Saison has some mild Saison qualities. There is a little yeastiness and funk, both in the flavor and in the nose but it is overall fairly bland and I blame this on the rice. I poured this beer from a16 oz can into a tulip glass. It appeared gold in color, slightly hazy with good carbonation and a bubbly white head. The carbonation fades and leaves a frothy head with better than average retention and light rings and patchy lacing on the glass. Taste is mild but not bad, certainly sessionable!!! Mouthfeel is medium rich, not bad for a 4.6% .abv beer!! Could be more interesting with spices and a bigger yeast/funk presence, but it is what it is!! As a light, somewhat Saison like sessionable beer - it works. If you are looking for a good Saison, not so much

This saison pours a super pale golden straw with white head. Funk on the nose. This is super light and clean. Real crusher in the beating, burning Richmond heat.
