Dark brown, fairly clear looking pour; opaque in the glass; fairly thick tan head, spongy and long lasting. Excellent dark grain roast nose, lightly sweet; light toffee in the background. Rich dark roasted grain flavor; nice bittersweet combo going on; moderate overall bitterness; light grain char; light milk and dark chocolate note lingering in the background. Medium body; smooth on the palate; a bit of grain char dryness midway through the sip and lingering into the finish.

This is a very fine Czech dark lager, highlighting the dark roasted malts, juggling a nice balance between bitter and sweet.

Pouring temperature: 41 °F; canning info: n/a

Poured at fridge temp into a nonic glass

Didn't see a canning date

Pours dark brown, fairly cola-esque with a more dense tan head. 3.75

I couldn't quite place aroma at the start. Lager sweetness, but something else too. I let it warm a while and smoke started to appear which was nicer than the almost odd sweetness. 3.5

Taste followed, a sweetness I still can't place, but followed by smoked malts and they seemed to be competing with each other. 3.5

Body was true to the style, light and easy drinking with fairly average carbo. 3.5

Overall I'm glad to have tried it as it could be a side of CDL's I haven't seen yet, and need to experiment more for a better understanding of them. 3.5

Pours the darkest of browns, huge big light brown head; very good staying power and a nice creamy film that lingers, with no lacing.

Nose has a chalky dryness to it, with some roasts and cocoa; light coffee with a background of aromatic woodiness.

The taste takes a different direction than the nose implies; it has a woodsy peppery note too, then finishes with some roast and slightly burnt toast, light yet bitter coffee.

Smooth and creamy light body; silky smooth carbonation, low but noticeable roast bitterness on the finish, clean finish and moderately dry.

I thoroughly enjoyed this beer…this beer was very flavor forward and bold but it maintained a very nice drivability; quality dark lager.

Poured dark brown, like a strong coffee. The aggressive tan head was easily 2” tall but left no lacing.
Aroma, hopefully nobody decides to try a beer based on my nose as it is not quite right. I did get some malt and toast, no hops did I detect.
The flavor, yum. For a sessionable lager, a dark Czech lager at that, this one could easily be consumed at length. Roasted malt, no sweetness, toast, a touch of hops, but just a touch. Very well balanced.
The feel is spot on, I almost finished this without actually thinking about it, just so quaffable.

Krewe de Rex from City Built Brewing. 16 oz can. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Received from @Whyteboar in NBW BIF #16. Reviewed 010/12/22. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated can. Served at 41.9 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 44.7 degrees.
Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Amber Brown (SRM 18), clear.
Body – Brown (SRM 20), opaque. Under direct light or rear-lite, same with light penetration at the edges - xanthic.
Head – Average (Maximum 4.7 cm, aggressive center pour), wheat, medium density, quickly diminishing to a 0.4 – 0.5 cm crown with a thin, rocky cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4.5 – Strong toasted malt, slightly bitter, no yeast.
Flavor – 4.5 – Flavor follows the nose – toasted malt, slightly bitter, no yeast. No ethanol (4.9 % ABV as marked on label) aroma or taste. No gastric warming occurs. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 4 – Medium, creamy, soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4 (After deducting 0.25 point for undated personal container) Delicious! The toasted malt is well-balanced with the hidden hops so that the malt has only a slight advantage in both flavor and aroma. The amount of bitterness is perfect.
