Clear, dark brown body; decent head, thins out a bit yet leaves sticky rings of foam along the glass. Deep roasted grain aroma with notes of cocoa and hazel nuts. Nutty caramel flavor; toasty bitterness. Medium body; residual sugars provide some substance to the body and slightly offset the tannins and bitterness.
This is a straight forward, classic version of a brown ale. Well-done, balanced, and offering some respectable complexity for a malt-forward beer that focuses on the darker side of the ale world.
