This decadent, full-bodied Stout is brewed with whole pureed mandarin oranges and then aged in Axe and the Oak bourbon barrels for a smooth, strong finish. Just strong enough to make you want to shank your cellmate.

Pours out a clear, dark brown color; opaque in the glass; rapid strings of carbonation rise up from the side of the glass; thick, light tan head, dense, long-lasting and with a creamy texture. Intense burst of fresh orange greets the nose; notes of chocolate and cocoa bravely try to break through the esters. The taste comes across more muted than the smell; richer malt sweetness; cocoa; subtle orange flavor dances with a twinge of whiskey; slight sense of grain char bitterness; orange marmalade. Heavy body; some residual sugar chewiness; very mild alcohol warmth.
The use of mandarin oranges makes for a stunning presence in the aroma and is nearly worth getting the beer just for that experience. The rest of the tasting experience is pretty good, too. The barrel aging is a bit subdued as well as the strength of the orange character in the flavor, yet the beer is well-balanced and nicely complex overall.
