more than a bit of a style bender here, this is a huge hopped up boozy red that is almost as much of an american barleywine as it is an ip of any persuasion, but despite its lack of identity, its a tasty and well made beer, and something quite different for the local landscape right now. deep copper in color, clear for the most part, and bursting with juicy tropical hop aroma, it kind of takes me off guard at first. nutty and sweet honey and caramelized flavors from the grain work with the fruity hops better than expected. its both oily and sweet in the flavor and the texture, and there isnt much bitterness. at this point, i have given up on this one evolving into an ipa, but i keep on liking the beer. the malt is intense, sweet for sure, with a brown sugar note, but also some neat dried fruitiness almost like a quad might have. the hops never get bitter, but there are enough of them to push through the grain and make this a relatively hoppy beer in general. boozy as heck, sticky in the finish, and a bit of a lunker on the whole, but a creative and pretty original beer, as much as one was enough for me. a little kitchen sinky really, but good.
