GoneAway is a western charged firecracker. We conjured the classics and then laid them on a bed of pale malt. This India Pale Ale shoots straight to the bitter edge before falling into a mellow haze. Deep gold and ready to travel into the distance.

Look: creamy fluffy head, sticky lacing, clear, golden
Smell: pine, citrus, touch of dank ripeness, lemon
Taste: pine resin, orange, lemon, grapefruit, tart
Feel: med body, moderate carbo
Overall: 7% abv. I suppose there is some bitterness but the citrus and pine meld so well creating the mellow haze that she's a bit too mellow. I'd like a little more punch. Canning date is not legible so this may have been on the shelf for a minute. Still, this brew is good, but I would like to get ahold of a fresh batch just to know. Shared with friends so it's good times with good tunes. Pairs well with Roll Me Away by Bob Seger.

Poured a cloudy, orange body with gold tint and decent head and lace. The Roma is somewhat dank with notes of grapefruit as well. Medium body, slightly chewy with a touch of caramel malt, but mostly piney, dank and bitter hops with grapefruit and crisp finish along with hint of something like tangerine or melon rind.

16oz can. Canning date stamp on bottom is '071824B'.
Slight haze, dark gold colored body. Two fingers of foamy white head upon pouring, and this recedes very slowly to a full cap and high ring. Leaves behind rings and columns of lacing.
Aroma a toasted sweet malt base, and higher notes of orange and lemon, and some presence of pine resin.
Taste is full, with flavors that follow the nose - orange and lemon, plus blueberry/strawberry, and later emerges the pleasant pine needle bitterness that lingers through the long aftertaste. Sweet toasted malts provide a solid base for all to sit and express.
More than medium mouthfeel, with a creamy texture. The bitterness expression is old school - definite and solid but not quite a palate wrecker. Excellent carbonation.
Still fresh tasting and balanced at three months in the can. Quietly strong.

There's much to like about the pour that emptied the contents of a pint can into a clear glass liter mug. Even at room temperature, only a modest off-white head was produced. Best, it has a solid IPA aroma. It's malt and hops, not tangerines and mangoes. It even looks like a proper IPA, perhaps a little lighter in its richly amber color. The taste nails just about everything that makes, or used to make IPAs the first choice of serious beer drinkers. There's a modest malty backbone that provides a decent body, but doesn't laden the brew with unnecessary sweetness. The hops are pronounced and get sharper and cleaner during the finish. Call them piney, or any other reference, they taste just like hops should be expected to taste. With so many new varieties of IPAs now available, to further define this would be to put it into the West Coast IPA category. There may be no glass lacing, nor sustaining head, but this gives a traditional IPA lover everything they want, with an extra hop bite.

Appearance; Pours a completely clear, medium orange/golden body with a strong white head. SRM of 6. (4.00)
Aroma: Moderate aromas of orange, tangerine, resonance and pine. Some caramel notes.
Flavor: Strong flavors of orange, tangerine, pine, dang stone, fruit. Resinous and sweet but finishes clean.
Feel: Lighter body, strong, carbonation, resonance, but clean.
Compared to Stone Zumology 8/24: Pours darker, similar head. Milder aromas. More tangerine, resinous pine, caramel. Less tropical stonefruit and sweet berries. Cleaner.
Overall: Some orange, tangerine, resinous pine and caramel. Fairly clean and not overly sweet. A nice caramel malt body while still being clean. Bitter, but could use more.
Overall: Some orange, tangerine, resinous pine and caramel. Fairly clean and not overly sweet. It's good, could be better. (Rating: 3.94)

Man, I feel like I'm rocking a vending machine in order to tip it over with this transition back to WCIPAs from hazies. This is a classic: even if it's from Chicago. Bitter, not juicy, malted, but not sweet.
Knowing that tastebuds change over time, I have tried to dampen my disappointment with some 2.0 WCIPAs. This one reminds me of the old days. So either my tongue hasn't changed that much, or Half Acre is tricking me into thinking it hasn't. To boot: this wasn't in my local Jewel-Osco's UPC system. The cashier (near the end of her shift) asked me if I remembered what the 4-pack costed. I said there wasn't a tag (which was the truth). She said, How's $4.99 sound?!

S: mild aroma. bit of peach and lemon.
T: a bit spicy. astringent. looking for hop flavors but it's a bit muddled. some peach and citrus rind. definite bitterness on the finish. pleasant but non descript on the front end. not really feeling it...

16oz can purchased from the fridge as part of a 4-pack for $11.99. Canned on 9/28/21, so this is 27 days old.
Look: Pours out a nearly clear deep gold color. There was a nice frothy one-finger off white head on the pour, that slowly receded to leave behind some nice lacing.
Smell: This smells like a super fresh West Coast IPA. A dank, peppery nose of pine resin, papaya, peach, and citrus rind. There seems to be a nice malt backbone too; I detect some caramel malts - maybe even some butterscotch. I wish that the nose was a bit more expressive, but I guess this is typical for West Coast IPAs.
Taste: I wasn't that impressed from the nose alone, but this is really crushable and delicious on the palate. The carbonation is perfect and the beer is just so well balanced with malt and hops. Up front, it is a bit peppery, slightly spicy and has notes of bread crust. The finish is dry and moderately bitter with lots of grapefruit rind and pith. I really get the chinook flavor lingering on the finish - that bitter, spicy, woody character that the chinook hop imparts so well. Another cool thing is that after the hop resin and bitterness fade from the finish, I can pick up a bit of caramel sweetness on the palate.
Feel: The mouthfeel is surprisingly light, in a good way. It just makes it so drinkable. It has just a bit of chew to it. It is also perfectly carbonated.
Overall: Another very well-made Half Acre beer. If you are looking for a classic West-Coast IPA, you can't do much better than this one. I'm lucky that this beer gets distributed here; apparently they only distribute it in-house and to the Philadelphia area.
From the website:
Chinook and Simcoe because nothing does classic like these pillars of flavor.
Two row, pale malt, Gold Pils Vienna
Sensory: Conifer Sap, Chillum Resin, Light Dank & Citrus
