Steeped in the lore and magick of the canyon, The Gulch is vintage pleasure concentrate. A lean bill of barley and the finest hop technology spilling out of the rapidly advancing programs across God's green earth. Expect the telltale marks of Citra, Equinox and Chinook. 8%, earthy, full, dank, piney and a touch of candy.

The pour yields a beautiful crystal-clear golden orange beer with a slightly off-white head filled with creamy bubbles. Dank citrus notes of sweet oranges and juicy pineapple dominate the nose.

The taste has the fullness of the dank tropical hops, and there’s also a subtle biscuit malt flavor, and literally no evidence at all of the 8.0% ABV.

This is the type of hop bomb that Half Acre does so well, especially when it’s uber fresh, as this is (canned 4/2/18). I wanted a well-executed hop bomb.

Mission Accomplished.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a one pint can on April 12, 2018. Canned 04/02/18. Brewed to highlight the 1970’s coastal existence in Topanga Canyon. A real cranny of freedom and individuality.

Pours a light bright golden color. Beer is slightly hazy but tends to clear up as it sits. Nice thick frothy white head dissipates steadily leaving a thin layer of foam with lots of sticky lacing.

Smell has notes of pineapple, mango, peach, orange and cantaloupe. Some grass, pine, and a very mild cracker malt come through on the back end of the aroma.

Taste follows the nose with some pineapple, peach, orange and cantaloupe quickly giving way to a dank bitter pine and grass flavor. Nice simple malt backbone peaks through.

Feel is light and very drinkable. Alcohol is hidden almost too well - this goes down so easily. Medium carbonation.

Overall this was another really well done DIPA from Half Acre. The simple malt backbone allows the hops to shine and its a nice balance between the fruitier hop profile while still maintaining the characteristic bitterness of traditional IPAs.
