a coconut pale ale, much better than its ratings in my opinion, as the coconut is dry and simple, not toasted and sweet and desserty, and the hops create a cool white wine and pineapple layer, a little bitterness to balance, and it ends up as a real drinkable summer brew, not sure why it isnt getting a little more love here. i like the nose as much as the taste, both have a really well integrated coconut profile thats neither suntan lotion nor a mounds bar. more natural than that, id love to know a little more about the brewing process and when it was introduced and all, possibly a post fermentation dry spice situation, but im not sure. the hops seem southern hemisphere to me, but this isnt over dry hopped, its all pretty restrained which is part of what makes it so drinkable. medium body, almost refreshing finish, and enough carbonation from the tap. i like its sort of simple nature, and think it makes sense this time of year. better than most as its still quite hoppy, and while better cold than as it warms, its a cool beer that i think is rather well done overall. i could drink a bunch of this and not be tired of it, which is rare in a flavored pale type for me. well done.

On tap at the source. Slightly hazy golden color with a frothy white head. Nice lacing. Aromas like a citrusy Pale Ale with faint coconut. The taste was the opposite : huge coconut flavor up front. The APA notes were there but the coconut dominated the experience. Clean and dry finish. Overall a nice beer but the coconut was distracting.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a 32 oz growler on August 8, 2017. Coconut pale ale brewed with Motueka and El Dorado hops for lime zest and whipped coconut feels. Big golden glow and aromatic intensity. Motueka and El Dorado meet flaked coconut in both the whirl pool and fermenter, for leisured lime zest and whipped coconut curls.
