16 fl oz pull-tab can packaged as a 4-pack. 2020 vintage. Acquired in Colorado.

"Double dry hopped double India Pale Ale." 8% ABV.

"Dry hopped with Cashmere, Sabro, Amarillo Cryo and Falconer's Flight, new age and classic varietals blend seamlessly into a tropical, forested coconut flurry."

Served cold into a conical pint glass.

APPEARANCE: Head is ~2.5cm in height. White in colour. ~6 minute head retention.

Body colour is a turbid dull orange. Its lack of filtration is hurting it.

It ain't much to look at for an IIPA, but it's in the ballpark of the style's general appearance.

AROMA: Tropical fruit dominates. Papaya, tangerine, guava, coconut, mango. Amarillo gets left in the dust by the other hop varietals at least aromatically, which is a shame since amarillo is my favourite hop.

Pale malt, probably wheat.

Doesn't seem to have the hop pungency I'd expect in a great IIPA, and I'm not loving the hop profile indicated by the aroma, but it seems to have a basic sense of balance to it and it's not boozy or off-note ridden judging by the aroma.

Leaves a lot to be desired, but promises a drinkable if underwhelming IIPA.

TASTE: Matches the aroma, rife with tropical fruit flavours including coconut, papaya, mango, guava, and tangerine (and roughly in that order), plus some very unwelcome pineapple that kind of ruins it for me (I hate pineapple hop flavour in beer). No Amarillo resinous hop flavour is present, to its detriment.

Pale malt/2-row. Probably wheat.

I don't love its hop profile. Overly tropical, lacking any other hop flavour to make it more diverse/complex...some resin, pine, citrus, grapefruit, oils, or similar would be welcome. Chalk it up to personal taste, I guess.

TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, coating, medium to full-bodied, thick, unrefreshing. Overcarbonated.

OVERALL: Not Half Acre's strongest work, but it's drinkable. I just don't dig its hop profile fundamentally, which is a shame since I normally like Sabro and Amarillo.

Can dated 8/3/20 into pint glass. Pours a murky gold with a brief off-white head. Nice lacing. Initial impression is very juicy, with orange, mango, and peach over a sweetish malt backbone. Mouthfeel is medium and slightly sticky. Fairly low bitterness. Finish is sweet and sticky, with little to no residual bitterness. Overall, a very enjoyable and thoroughly drinkable DIPA! I would love to find this on tap.

Picked up a 16oz can from the Craft Beer Hop Stop cooler 9-2-20 for $3.99. Presumably canned in August; consumed 11-9-20.

Beer poured a hazy orange with a nice white head with some very good hang time.

Nose is tropical and citrus forward.

Taste is a nice combination of peach, passion fruit, and some orange over a light but substantial malt base. Finishes with a touch of pit and rind; 6/10 on my bitterness scale.

Mouthfeel is light bodied and very refreshing.

Overall another wonderful Half Acre DIPA. Nice beer at a nice price!

16 oz. Can
Canned On: 08/13/20

Poured into a Tree House glass a pretty nice cloudy dark golden orangy/yellow color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger plus off-white head, which leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, peach, guava), pretty nice little diesel like. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, peach, guava), pretty nice little diesel like. Medium body, ABV hidden very well, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty tasty brew. Glad to see it around here.

Bought at Hazel's in Boulder. Canned: 09/07/20 Consumed: 10/04/20.

A&S: The beer is a practically opaque hazy apricot-colored beer. Light and fluffy white head that hangs around in about a half finger. Honey sweetness, floral hops and light piney resin, but honestly it is the weak point of this beer.

T&M: piney and floral hop bomb! Not super bitter, almost too sweet, but the hop profile is super intense. Rich and creamy texture (without nitro) while being still light on the palate and juicy.

Overall: I'm impressed. One of my favorites out of an already great brewing company. I would recommend it.

L - hazy unfiltered, not THICC turbid NEIPA. Definitely good head, weird partial lacing down the glass.
S - tropical, tropical AF, and then more tropical. Pineapple-dank-coconut grove with an herbal whiff.
T - Yeah, definitely Sabro in this (sigh) - so a woodsy-coconut note that can make you think it's "minty" but it's coconut. It's well managed, but still not my fave in this kind of beer. Good balance, though, and it doesn't annoy me in the end.
F - Good carbonation, good soft mouthfeel, and the DDH doesn't get too harsh _because of the tropical hop bill notes_ - still not my favorite. Helps to drink this COLD if you don't like Sabro (pro tip).
O - Another really good DIPA from Half Acre, but like Alive in Its Jaws (which I like better), they need to move on from Sabro. Just put it in a Stout and we're good. Then it would serve a purpose to have that hop-coconut note in it.

pretty tasty brew with a unique flavor profile. definitely worth seeking out. canned on stamp is tough to read but i will optimistically say 8/3/20, consumed 9/25/20. so thanks to the local monger for keepin it fresh.
L: from the can. can art is actually exceptional.
S: sweet citrus. orange, tangerine. very nice.
T: interesting - very tasty. sweet citrus gives way to a distinct bitterness. some unique flavor notes. maybe mint? bit of mango? bitter finish. one of a kind & very good.
F: very smooth and rich. a high point.
O: damn good brew. hats off to Half Acre.

Deep orange in color with hazy, unfiltered appearance. Poured with a moderate, creamy white foam with medium retention that left a ladder of sticky lacings to the bottom of the glass. Freshly squeezed orange, citrus and berry aromas with light malty notes. Medium bodied with medium light carbonation. Lush, creamy, viscous feel up front that's interrupted by pleasant, prickly warmth to the end. Candied oranges and fresh fruity, berry flavors with a medium light malty backbone. Medium light bitterness through the middle followed by light pine and minty notes to the end. Finished dryly with light fruity and minty flavors and a ghostly distant pine bitterness. Another fantastic pale ale from Half Acre. Great hop character, not overly fruity with a fabulous feel and finish.

Not bad. Darker orange/gold tint. Malty and mildly citrusy smell. Taste is juicy and citrusy, with a prevalent malty background. Medium bodied, definite booziness, very well rounded. Thanks to great beers like this that fly under the radar, Half Acre is one of the most underrated Chicago breweries.
