Kolsch. Such a brewer’s beer. Tons of potential pitfalls riddled in nuance. Delicate features to comb through, hopefully to let it all slide away in order to simply enjoy the process of drinking good, clean beer. We give you Discus Kolsch. Hats off to our brewhouse & cellar team for delivering the feel on this one. Balanced, subtle malt and hop flavors with wonderful body all drifting in harmony. Taste those spicy Euro hops -- Saaz, Celeia, Saphir.⠀
⠀
For those of you that dug deep into the fish tank world, you’ll know the Discus. A prize freshwater fish, fussy and tough to keep around, but beautiful and a testament to good care, just like Kolsch. Let’s swim.

Canned 4/15/2021, can from brewery
A nice beer, whatever it is, as it reminds me more of a Vienna lager than a kolsch. Hops: Saaz, Celeia, Saphir. No indication of malts, ABV, or IBU on packaging or online.
Pours a white foam that fades in slightly longer than average time to a thin ring around the perimeter of the glass and a small island of foam atop the body. Lacing is modest, with a few dots clinging to the sides of the glass. Body is a light golden orange color, with light bringing out brighter orange-yellow hues (SRM 2-4). Transparent.
Aroma of lightly spicy, sweet, fruity, and slightly toasted malt notes (in that order).
Flavor of lightly toasted malt, not exactly pilsner, but perhaps just 2-row, pale ale, Vienna, or some mix of those where the toasted malt aspect can be dominant? Front: lightly toasted malt character with a moderate sweetness and slight apple ester. Mid: continued and possibly more intense toasted malt character with some residual sweetness, a light bitterness and spicy hop character, and perhaps a mild fruity ester note. Back: continued, but more blended, toasted malt character with residual sweetness and a medium-light hop bitterness; some minor fruitiness either from yeast or hops. After: lingering mild spicy hop bitterness alongside a light toasted malt character and very slight fruity ester.
Beer is medium-light in body, with carbonation of medium-low to medium intensity, resulting in a mostly smooth, lightly foamy mouthfeel (2.3-2.4 vol CO2). Closes very dry, with light stickiness on the lips and palate.
