Hops: HBC 630, Chinook, Talus, and CTZ.

Brewed in collaboration with Seattle's Fremont Brewing, this IPA nails the classic West Coast grassy, resinous, pine with papaya and cantaloupe aromas. The medium body carries a touch of sweet cereal malt and a satisfying lingering bitterness.

16 oz can, into glass

pours a clear yellow golden color, with white head. decent head retention. Citrusy and dank, nice bitterness. Medium bodied, a little slicker than a normal WC IPA

I had this on draft 8/14/23 @ the Beer Temple.

See-through orange appearance.

Nice white head; strong lacing remained.

Mango, tropical punch & dry ganja notes in the nose.

Sticky, medium mouthfeel.

Grapefruit, dray ganja & mild booze heat flavors.

IBU fiends may love this, but it was astringent to me. Smelled pretty good though!

HA has better beers for sure, this one was just ok. Not as bitter or malty as old school west coat ipas but more of a mellow version. Crafty for sure, but just not all that.

Canned 6/22/23 (1 month ago) - Hops: HBC 630, Chinook, Talus, CTZ

Appearance: Pours a completely clear, deep orange color with a strong white head. (4.00)

Aroma: Strong as a grapefruit, papaya, orange, some melon. (4.00)

Flavor: Strong flavors of orange citrus, papaya, tangerine some better pine. Hints of melon underneath. Finishes bitter though. (4.00)

Feel: Medium bodied, appropriate carbonation, bitter and resinous on the finish. (4.00)

Compared to Stone IPA 7/2023: Pours identical. Stronger aromas. More tropical melon, tangerine. Similar pine, but less citrus. Slightly heavier, but similar bitterness, maybe slightly less.

Overall: A new one from Half-Acre in collab with Fremont from Seattle so that qualifies as west-coast. Half Acre known for some good beers, but admittedly I've been less than impressed with some of their IPAs. Turns out a pretty nice WCIPA though. Great hop flavors, mildly sweet, yet a robust bitterness. One of the better ones I remember from Half Acre. (Rating: 4.05)

16oz can purchased from the fridge as a single for $4.99 plus tax. This was just canned on 06/22/23, so it's super fresh and only 23 days old.

Look: It pours a nice medium orange gold color with near perfect clarity and lots of tiny bubbles rising up the glass in synchronized unison. It has a small but frothy looking whitish head with lots of tiny bubbles.

Smell: The aroma is awesome. It has a very floral and fruity aroma, along with some resinous qualities. I get like a bubble gum note (maybe more like juicy fruit gum) along with citrus, stone fruit, and tropical fruit: orange and grapefruit zest, mango, pineapple, and even some passion fruit and guava. Green bell pepper and some oniony notes on the finish after swirling the glass.

Taste: It's really tasty and very drinkable even with the high bitterness. It has a lovely way of still tasting balanced and not tasting sweet or overly bitter. The finish is dry and has lots of grapefruit pith and resinous hop character. The finish lingers long.

Feel: The mouthfeel is medium plus. It has a nice chewiness. Nicely carbonated.

Overall: This is basically exactly what I want from a 7.5% West Coast IPA. It has such delicious aromatic character and it is so drinkable and chuggable.

From instagram:
SLOW WINK is brewed in collaboration with the wonderfully talented Matts @fremontbrewing. So many Matts on both sides of this equation. We went hard after that classic, bitter, resinous, dank, dry, West Coast IPA. Double dry hopped with Talus, CTZ + Chinook to layer in grassy pine character & HBC 630 to counter with cantaloupe smoothie. On the pour, pine & grapefruit aromas drop you deep into the Pacific NW.

It’s ok. But a West Coast IPA brewer in Chicago is kind of like ordering sushi at a Cubs game. I mean, it could still be good, but it sure as hell wouldn’t be my first choice. This one is like a hot chick from the Midwest who moved to LA, but only scored a few commercials before quitting and heading back home.

There’s no shame in trying and failing, my children. Putting yourself out there is a beautiful thing in itself. Let’s go.
