If you like lager this is your beer. Zwickel is the name for the valve on a lagering tank that brewers use to judiciously test a maturing beer for quality, sometimes multiple times in one night. Zwickel as a style encompasses any unfiltered European lager, offering the closest thing to a backstage pass you can get without joining the brewers’ tribe. This one is based on a Bohemian-Style Pilsner- malty, spicy-Saazy, and lightly yeasty.

Three fingers of foam with a flurry of spotty lacing, sharp clarity, brassy gold orange tone.

Aroma is malt and yeast driven, tea and minerals, flavor skews more malty with a crusty fresh baguette vibe. Cooked malt cereal, a mild earthiness. Light dry bitterness to balance in the finish.

Medium body with some heft, smooth supple feel, creamy texture with ample carb. Flavorful and drinkable.

Canned 03-07-23. Tall can into my short Becher.

L -- Lightly hazy, brassy gold with a sudsy white head that settles fast.

S -- Herbal Noble hops, mild graininess back.

T -- Even balance of herbal hops and husky grainy malt up front. Sweetish, yeasty, bready malts follow. Herbal hops return in the finish and through the aftertaste. The hop bitterness is apparent, but not palate-wrecking -- very tasty.

M -- Mouthfeel is soft to dry and crisp with a light-medium body.

O -- An outstanding drinker that only suffers from a lack of head retention and meek nose. I'll be grabbing more of this when I can.

Canned 3/7/23; drank 3/11/23 @ Hannah & Kenser's.

Semi-opaque orange appearance.

A rough pour yielded a nice off-white head; strong, frothy lace.

Fresh corn, oats & mild acorn notes in the nose.

Creamy medium mouthfeel.

Fresh corn & mild caramel flavors up front; mild barnyard notes and some raw oats on the finish.

A nice rustic lager; I'd have another!
