A maltier sibling of our Czech Pils, the Czech Dark pours a clear rich dark with amber hues around the edges. Slightly lower in alcohol than the pils, the dark raises the malt with notes of stone fruit and chocolate, but finishes crisp and clean with that classic pilsner hoppiness.

Pours a dark cola brown and settles that color in the glass with a creamy tan head. The nose includes chocolate, toffee, and subtle roasty espresso notes. Lovely nose on the beer.
The taste is all about that interplay between the chocolate and toffee, with the roasty malt flavor in the background for balance.
The body is surprisingly light and crisp, fitting the beer really well. This is really well executed, something I’d gladly revisit.

Sampling a 16 oz can. Cold, right out of fridge and poured into .5L dimple mug.
Canned on date stamp of 8/31/2022.
Pours a clear cola brown color and rests in the glass slight darker. Some mahogany highlights on edges when I hold glass up to the light.
Fizzy dense beige head is about .5 cm and fades quickly to a sturdy edge layer. Some tight lattice on each sip or swirl.
Aroma is dominant malt with toasted notes, molasses and faint dark chocolate. No real hop presence. Malt domiant but not very sweet nose.
First sip reveals a lighter body and fine tingly carbonation. Texture is smooth and the beer drinks pretty easy. Gors down great on a warm spring day.
Flavor is some roasted notes and molasses with some dark chocolate in background again. This is NOT a sweet beer. Hops are faint but maybe a little grassy hit that shows up on finish.
No abv hints anywhere and the mug is emptying quickly. Very glad to have tried this one, its a good brew.

Czech Dark Lager from Obec Brewing. 16 fl oz can from @snaotheus in NBW BIF 17. Reviewed 09/05/23 (Review 3096). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “CANNED ON 08/31/22”. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 45.8 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 55.2 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Medium Amber (SRM 12), clear.
Body – Ruby Brown (SRM 24), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear lite, transparent ruby.
Head: Average (Maximum 2.7 cm, aggressive center pour), wheat, high density, average retention, reducing to a 0.3 – 0.5 cm crown fed by carbonation, and a thin, partially rocky cap.
Lacing – Good. Three-dimensional prominences remain above the crown as the level drops.
Aroma – 3.5 – Roasted malt, no hops, no yeast. No ethanol (4.5 % ABV as marked on the label) aroma.
Flavor – 3.5 – Roasted malt with some background chocolate, slightly sweet. No hops, no yeast. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. No gastric warming.
Palate – 4 – Thin; watery; soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.75 This is only the second beer in this style of which I have partaken. Both the aroma and flavor are roasted malt, the flavor leaving a brown, slightly bitter, taste in my mouth.

16oz can served in a footed pilsner glass. Canned on 08/31/22. Bought it at the brewery a couple weeks ago.
Pours very dark brown, almost black, with about 1.5cm of head. Smell is toasted nuts and toffee, some sweetened dark roast coffee.
Taste is moderately sweet, dark toast and light chocolate, light bitterness crossing between grass and roastiness.
Mouthfeel is very light, quenching. Overall, nice dark lager.

Had on tap. Amber brown pour with a khaki head and mild lacing. Aromas of mild caramel and malt with nuttiness, earth and cocoa. Taste is much the same with some dried date, very classical. Body is malty, smooth but much lighter than expected, finish kind of dies off.

On tap at the brewery, Seattle.
Oxblood-chocolate brown; spiced prune + roast; cracker, mild toffee, + raisin, clean grass finish with long spicy linger.
4 3.75 3.75 4 4
Clean and on point. Under defined for a Czech Dark Lager, though - all the flavors should be clean + distinct, because lager. Still, this was satisfying, even fairly late in the evening.
