The big brother of your favourite crispy lager. This velvety, smooth cream ale has all the drinkability your tastebuds crave, while still maintaining a balance of richness and flavour. A subtle malt sweetness and a slight hop bitterness lets your pleasure senses know that this beer is a thing of beauty.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Oct 8 2024 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a mostly-clear brassy amber colour, producing one finger of creamy, foamy white head that recedes within a couple of minutes. A narrow collar and sudsy cap remain on the surface, with swaths of lace deposited after each sip; looks good. Malty aroma with some fruity-sweet qualities - I'm getting grains, doughy bread and baked apples, with hints of honey and wheat.

The flavours are along the same lines, i.e. malty and a little fruity. Wheat, honey and bready malt sweetness at the forefront, joined by notes of apples and very light caramel mid-sip. Hints of earthy, tea leafy hop bitterness crops up at the tail end, with a malty-sweet finish that persists into the aftertaste. Medium-light in body, with moderate carbonation that adds some prickliness to this brew's smooth, dare I say 'creamy' texture. Easy to toss back; drinking a couple of these in a row would be no problem whatsoever.

Final Grade: 3.82, a solid B+. Prince Eddy's C.R.E.A.M. Ale is a flavourful lunchpail ale that I'd rank as above average for the style. Well balanced, with understated hops that do a good job of countering the malty, sweet-ish aspects of the flavour profile, without drawing too much attention to themselves. I tend to overlook cream ales in favour of lagers and pilsners, but this is one that I could see working its way into my rotation. Give 'er a go and see if you agree.

Poured 473ml can into a pint glass. a two finger fine off white head on a hazy dark amber. the head diminished to a layer that sticks around to the end. a fine veil of lacing.

Some very subdued spicy malts in the nose. The taste is fruity up front. Some caramel. An almost imperceptible hop finish.

The mouthfeel is soft and creamy. Medium body and carbonation. Overall a fine Cream Ale. Well worth a try.

Golden apple juice colour with a good sized head that settles to a partial film. Some fairly good lace as you go. Subtle malt and fruity hops on the nose, very laid back. Malt to taste, juicy fruitiness. Gently dry and slightly bitter finish. Drinkable, fairly ordinary stuff, preferable to other cream ales I've had.
