473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Nov 12 2020 and served barely chilled.
Pours bright and effervescent, with a golden yellow-hued body that is crowned with one finger of smooth, creamy white head. Within several minutes, it has receded down to a quarter-inch cap, with an even ring of lacing left in its wake - I don't know about a chin dropper, but it's definitely attractive in the glass. Notes of bready, doughy pale malts and grassy hay on the nose, with minor suggestions of apple, lemon zest and stone fruit.
It's a serviceable blonde ale - I'm tasting grainy wheat and bready pale malt sweetness at first, with grassy hay, floral hops and a hint of lemon zest coming through towards the finish. Maybe a hint of melon rind in there somewhere, but that's the only "tropical" semblance I'm getting out of it (and I'm only bringing this up because they used that descriptor on the label at least twice). Not quite dry, with a briefly lingering sensation of hop grassiness/earthiness in the aftertaste. Light in body, with lively carbonation that prickles the tongue and froths up a little on the palate, resulting in a rather soft, smooth mouthfeel.
Final Grade: 3.57, a B grade. Prince Eddy's Chin Dropper is your standard issue blonde ale - clean pale malts, a touch of grassy hops and not a whole lot else. The tropical notes mentioned in the marketing blurb are nowhere to be seen, really - not that I necessarily even expect 'tropical' flavours out of a blonde ale, it just bugs me when a claim like that is made without being backed up in the slightest. I might drink this again, but it's not worth going out of your way for, and there are other blondes and pale lagers at the LCBO (in this price range, if not cheaper) that beat out Chin Dropper handily.
