Lager - It's a thing of beauty. This crispy boi can be the easy-drinking, fun party beer you've been waiting for. It can also be the delicate, fluffy and balanced German lagerbier of your dreams. Either way, it's a bevy for those that a 'beer beer'.

Drink it. Love it. Crush it.

473 mL can from the LCBO, included in Prince Eddy's Beach Box mixed pack. Dated May 5 2025 and served barely chilled.

Pours a relatively clear straw yellow colour, producing more than two fingers of lumpy, soapy, sparkling white head that lasts for five minutes, give or take. Gobs of lace are left in its wake, with its eventual remnants including a wide, frothy collar and a patchy cap; looks better than most light lagers. The nose, on the other hand, is about what I'd expect: grainy malts, white tortilla and wet cardboard, with suggestions of grassy hay.

This light lager tastes alright, but the over-carbonation is a continuous nuisance. Flavours of grainy malts, wheat, white bread and tortillas make for a mildly sweet profile, punctuated by hints of grassy hops, as well as a peppery spice note at the finish. Corny-sweet conclusion followed by an off-dry aftertaste. Light in body, with aggressive carbonation that jabs at the palate constantly and froths up in the mouth, making for a rather bloaty light beer. Finishing one glass is easy enough, but I don't think I could session this; it's too fizzy.

Final Grade: 3.44, a B-. Fast Eddy's is a strange light lager that I don't entirely dislike. That spicy finish is pretty unique for the style, and the inclusion of wheat and oats results in a surprisingly flavourful light lager. On the other hand - that carbonation is really a bit much. Granted, this can was sitting in a box on a warm shelf in a liquor store for at least 4-5 months, and I'll concede that a properly-stored can might not have suffered from this problem. I'll give this another try if I spot it fresh, but for now it earns a lukewarm, half-hearted recommendation.
