An exceptional dark ambery lager. This beer’s mild grain aroma and roasted spice notes are equalled by its smooth, malty finish.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From the Huron Church Rd. LCBO in nearby Windsor. Canned March 13/25. My 5th beer from the Picton, Ontario brewery, and 4th for 2025. Radically adored by Gracie the cat...

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Sep 4 2024 and served slightly chilled.
Pours crystal clear chestnut brown with ruby red highlights; floating atop is nearly an inch of foamy, beige-coloured head that lasts for two to three minutes. A tight, creamy collar and filmy cap are its remnants, with substantial lace deposition over the course of the glass. Malt forward aroma of caramel, nuts, roasted grains and boiled vegetables, with hints of cocoa and pumpernickel.
It tastes alright - I'm getting toasted grains, caramel and pumpernickel, with a little bit of a leafy, herbal bitterness on the back end. Roasty finish, with lingering earthiness and a touch of cocoa in the aftertaste. Light-medium in body, with assertive carbonation that prickles and prods the palate throughout each sip; crisp, with a smooth mouthfeel. I could probably drink a couple of these in a row, but dunkels are not a style I tend to drink one after another.
Final Grade: 3.64, a B grade. Eddy's Dunkel Lager is a serviceable dark lager, but there's room for improvement. More specifically, it's a little overcarbonated, and more bitter than I'd like from a dunkel lager. That being said, there's nothing especially wrong with it - it's easy enough to knock back, and while I doubt that this is a beer I'll be drinking on a regular basis, I wouldn't discourage other BAs from giving it a shot.
