Made in Cooperation with our friend Travis Allen of Kobayashi Winery.
The 202 harvest beer was made from a native re/fermentation of grapes grown by the Sauer family at Red Willow Vineyards. 1982 planted Riesling Sauvignon Blanc were cofermented on their skins. The blend consists of dry hopped wheat and oat saison and open fermented wheat saison.
This beer was refermented to condition in the bottle with raw Washington honey.

Bottle at share. Cloudy, pale golden with a small bubbly head. Fruity aroma, some citrus, some grapes. Taste brings subtle tartness, stone fruit, white wine. Light on the palate.

Pours a pale yellow, kind of reminiscient of lemon juice? And about as cloudy. Taken out of the light, it takes on a slightly more golden hue. Nice little initial pile of white fluff settles into the edges of the glass.
Nose is rich on the pour with floral and fruity notes. Once it's settled down and the head has receded, the funky yeast comes forward and gives it a much earthier bouquet, which I think would fall within the realm of what I've heard described as 'barnyard.' I don't think I've ever used that particular descriptor before, or at least not often.
Flavour leads in with a nice rich fruity note that I still don't think I'd describe as grapes, but I think I like it more than if it were what I think of as grape/white wine. It's certainly that vein, though. I have a hard time quite putting my finger on what fruits I WOULD describe it as, however. But it's a good rich sensation that permeates the whole beverage and it's really tasty. There's definite funk in there, but it's subservient to the fruitiness. Same with a nice lemon-citrus and spicy bitter hopping. Maybe like kiwis and starfruit and green apple and lemon, but not actually any of those (except maybe the lemon), but like... somewhere in that realm. Anyway, it's really good.
The lingering impressions are a surprisingly dry finish, that has lingering elements of the fruits, but more a nice refreshingly briefly bitter and a touch of yeasty spice.
I think Adam does a really good job (well, of brewing beer, in general, but in particular) of doing saisons refermented on ____, and this is no exception. In fact, this is fantastic. I am usually less bullish on grape-fermented beers, as often the manifestation of white wine grapes and the hops/yeasts that are popular to bring about those types of flavours in general are not to my personal liking, but this bottle is phenomenal. I will be truly curious, as this allotment came with two of them, to see how it transforms over time, because I am, afterall, a man of science.
