Weird decision but I'm drinking this after an imperial stout. Don't ask me why.
Pours a very think foam head that goes away quick. Pinky red orange color. Smells of sour fruit juice.
Taste is pretty good actually. Lightly sour with a mild watermelon taste. A hint of beetroot if you try to find it.
Not super sweet or overwhelming at all like I half expected it to be. Leaning on the real fruit natural tasting side.
It's actually a good tasing drink and I could drink this one again. There isn't a whole heck of a lot going on besides the pleasant watermelon beetroot taste but that's ok for me right now to wash down a sticky 11% Imperial Stout.
This is better than I thought it was going to be, so good job Mascot. I'd get this one again if I feel like having one of these light tropical fruit drinks.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, from my favourite LCBO at The Roundhouse Centre in nearby Windsor. My first beer from the Toronto, ON brewery.

This comes across to be as a well made sour. The tartness wasn't over the top and complimented the flavours of the beer. Watermelon and beets, eh? Not too sure about that going in, but it works. The flavours compliment each other and the beets add some sturdiness. A pleasant surprise. Watermelon is predominant, well braced by the beets underneath that. Enjoyable.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Feb 28 2024 and served slightly chilled. Beets and watermelons - seems like a strange combo at first glance, but it guarantees you'll end up with a red-coloured watermelon beer.
Pours a reddish rosé colour, topped with over an inch of tight, foamy, pale pink-tinted head that collapses within ninety seconds or so. A narrow collar remains, with a few specks of lace flung onto the glass; it's a decent-looking fruited sour. Same goes for the nose: there's an earthy, vegetal beet note, with relatively subtle hints of watermelon; I'm also getting light lactic funk and lemon yogurt.
The taste is not bad; palatable and unique, but not exactly an eye-opener. Low key at the start, with beet sweetness and bready malts eventually giving way to tangy notes of watermelon juice; I'm also getting lemon acidity, raspberry yogurt and lacto-sour funk on the back end. A little bit of a vegetal, earthy beet note at the finish, but the watermelon proves to be an effective foil; they both dissipate into an off-dry aftertaste. Light-medium in body, with sharp carbonation that agitates the tongue; prickly mouthfeel, but pretty smooth going down. Theoretically sessionable, but in practice, one per night is enough.
Final Grade: 3.78, a B+. I think Mascot deserves a few bonus points for pulling off a beet beer wherein I actually appreciated the contribution of the beets - and I don't just mean the lovely red hue. The beet flavour actually does work surprisingly well with the melon - which I am not entirely sure is derived from actual fruit, but doesn't come off as especially 'artificial', either. I liked Watermelon Beet Sour more than I was expecting to, and I'd encourage other BAs to seek out and try this odd brew.
