Presentation: Sampled at Fernandes Brewery Tap on Friday 18th March during my Easter Trip to UK & Belgium.
Appearance: Simple square laminated paper pump-clip that had picture of 5 Horseshoes arched in a humpback smiley face arrangement, and stuck onto the serving Handpump. Listed at 5% on the pump-clip and a Special Brew, not sure what for though my notes dont reference that.
Nose: Sharp aroma of spicy and crisp clean hops in the aroma.
Taste: Nicely balanced and if you have had Roosters beers before then you know what to expect. Nevertheless, the 5 Horseshoes has a little more hop oil in the middle than is usually experienced with Roosters. Clean tasting with a crisp snazzy hop feel. Residual hop bite on the tongue was not exactly high in strength but it lasted well and served as a nice reminder until the next mouthful, rather dry finish in the end.
Mouthfeel: Middle of the road, carbonation was cask like and nicely supported the hop feel in this one. Felt lively on the tongue.
Drinkability: Despite its 5% ABV, which is relatively high for a UK Cask brew, this is a quaffer for sure.
Overall: Typical Roosters. To be honest I have a hard time telling the small differences and nuances between some of the regular Roosters beers, their Special brews and their Outlaw range at times. Needless to say that this is similar in style to other light colored hoppy brews from Roosters.
Another solid brew and a pleasant enough offering.
