A West Coast take on a classic Extra Special Bitter. Smooth drinking and malt (Maris Otter) forward with a bitter hop (Fuggle and Liberty).

Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug.
Appearance: rich amber-orange hue with just a little dash of haze and a finger of frothy, compact, light-tan foam. Looking good.
Smell: sweet and malty with plenty of caramel character, and also plenty of biscuit. Biscuit is perhaps not my favorite, but it's stylistically appropriate.
Taste: like the aroma, but with everything more pronounced. A thick caramel character, combined with lots of biscuity character, topped off with a rather strong bitterness. Again, rather biscuit-forward for my taste, but it's definitely what it says on the tin.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: this is a decent beer for the style, but it doesn't appeal to me personally as much as it might.

Color is a handsome dark red-orange with a big pile of foam in the Troubadour tulip. Abundantly sudsy on the tongue with a mouthfilling malty sensation. Inviting aroma of roasted malt and a touch of mint. Some sweetness on the lips followed by the roasted grain flavors. Rather hoppy with a musty, woodsy, herbal taste. Moderate but distinct bitter aftertaste. Actually after some sipping it's grainy, resiny and even more bitter. From the 16 oz can purchased at Central Market in Shoreline.
