The plethora of lime flavoured light lagers available in Ontario have a new competitor. A 2.5% ABV, lemon flavoured light beer sold in cute little 250mL pony bottles. The bottles are clear, but this is a new product in Ontario so I know it hasn't been on the shelf very long. It certainly hasn't been on the shelf long enough for any skunk to mar its delicate aroma of grain, white bread, and lemon juice. No hop aroma to speak of. Pours pale straw in colour with a thin white head that leaves a spotty lace on my pils glass. It's grainy and sweet with a very bright and refreshing lemon flavour. Its citrus flavour seems very natural, with the beer containing a small percentage of lemon juice in addition to lemon extract.
It's spritzy and extremely light, as you might expect from such a beer, but also packs in quite a bit of flavour. This quencher may not be craft, but it's good for what it is. Meant for slaking your thirst on hot days and in large quantities, and I could drink it that way. I'd rather have a full pint of it on some sunny patio rather than this little 250mL bottle. I didn't expect to enjoy this, but now I wish I'd bought the whole six-pack instead of grabbing just a single bottle from it.
