Notes via stream of consciousness: What the F am I doing drinking something called "Shamrock Dreamsicle"? I don't even know what it is. Is there something on the label? No. I'll assume then that there's no adjunct or flavorings added. It's not green, so that's a start. It's cloudy, and amber in color. The head is a finger's width of off-white that's holding quite well. It's labeled as an "INDIA PALE ALE" but I'm not finding any hops in the aroma. It's 7% though so maybe that's what they're referring to. What I am finding is a combination of mint and vanilla over some lightly sweet, grainy, and delicately caramelish malt. Now, I could see getting a mint aroma from hops, that's entirely possible, and perhaps some vanilla from the yeast but that's not the case here, they've added something to it. On to the taste then, it's got quite a bit of mint backed by the vanilla and then the gently caramelish malt. Is there a hint of chocolate to it as well? I'm not sure but it honestly reminds me of a Girl Scout's Thin Mint Cookie. But this is a beer and it remains a beer. There's some bitterness to it, and along with the cooling character of the mint and the alcohol it dries nicely in the finish leaving you ready for another sip. I like it. It's one of those beers that's not really a dessert beer, and yet it kind of is. You can drink it like a regular beer though. In the mouth it's medium bodied on the fuller side and smooth with a fine bodied, seemingly natural carbonation. There's a lot of extra protein in it as well so that helps. The head held up quite well and it left some decent lacing about the glass. It's still kind of ugly looking with its murky character but I guess I have to excuse that as it's got a hazy IPA base. In the end it's quite a nice tipple although it does have a certain life span ~ I'm just a little more over halfway through it and I can assure you that even if I had another one on hand I wouldn't be reaching for it next. Still, it's charming and I'd buy it again.
