16oz glass at the brewpub in deep southside Edmonton. Made with a slew of berry fruit, the list of which I have already forgotten. Oh well.
This beer appears a hazy, medium apricot amber colour, with a thin cap of wispy and bubbly off-white head, which leaves a bit of mitochondrial lace around the glass as things slowly sink away.
It smells of bready and biscuity pale malt, a mixed bag of domestic berry fruitiness, subtle earthy yeast notes, and some tame leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is strawberry, raspberry, and blackberry flesh, bready and doughy caramel malt, an ethereal yeastiness, and more understated leafy, herbal, and floral verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is quite mild in its quotidian frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with a thin airy creaminess evolving over the course of this experience. It finishes off-dry, the fruit and malt continuing their lingering cuddle.
Overall - this is a simple, and well-rendered fruit ale, as the berries don't take over the whole affair, instead meshing ably with the base blonde brew. Easy enough to put back, and really quite enjoyable, even on a cold and blustery early November day.
