My notes on this one gave it a 3 and a half across the board. A pretty good attempt at a rye ipa. Somewhere between copper and aged bronze with an adequate head, the hops are a good selection, earthy and compliment the rye spice well. But they are overpowering and I'd like a little more rye flavor in there.

Handsome coppery color with sticky foam and nice lacing in the tall Blanche de Chambly glass. Just a touch of dark grain in the aroma. Plenty tangy and spritzy on the tongue.

The rye is very grainy rather than spicy. Just a touch of malty sweetness. The hops push the bitterness a little too far. I wish this was spicier and a little maltier. Overall it's kind of dry and flat with that grainy bitterness taking over. From the 12 oz bottle in the sampler 12-pack purchased at The Market in Anacortes.

From the 12 fl oz bottle dated Sep 16, 2014. Sampled on March 27, 2015.

The pour is a medium amber color with a quick-lasting off-white head but active carbonation.

The aroma is mainly rye grain with a backdrop of earthy hops and vague sweetness. But grains, cereal, bread, and malts are the main thing.

Medium mouthfeel.

Like the aroma I pick up more grains intermixing with a definite sweetness to balance it out. Earthy hop finish but not imposing. Easy to drink.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a dark brown color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of light rye, not much else. Taste has some rye sharpness, bready malts, some hops, well balanced. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid beer.

I received this beer as a gift over the holidays. It pours a very dark reddish brown with tastes of rye, big malts and some citrus. Very good tasting and a great choice for someone who's interested in rye beers.
