Draught @ Cambridge House: Its nice to have Steve as our brewer, as he brought a log of his Porter down from Portsmouth for us to sample. This is usually only on tap at the Portsmouth Brewery. This pours an opaque brown color, There was a decent tan head on it. The nose was decent, with notes of chocolate, coffee and a hint of sweetness. The taste is very good, with hints of the chocolate and a slight sweetness. A solid medium body. A very nice brew. I hate to keep sucking up to Steve (the Brewer), but he came up with another winner!

A new offering from Redhook. Very dark brown with a thick mocha head that proved to be quite sticky. It had quite a coffee aroma, with a hint of sweetness. The taste was espresso, which intensified in my mouth. Again, a hint of something sweet. Despite the espresso flavor, I thought this beer was a touch too timid. Still, I liked it enough to take some home with me.

Twelve ounce unlabeled bottle shipped from the brewery
Pours as black as ZZ Top's sunglasses capped with two full fingers of tightly-packed, medium tan foam. Lacing is 55% as the collar collapses within a beer-ready Stone Old Guardian glass [http://www.stonebrew.com/og/2007/index.html]. A wee bit dark according to the BJCP...but I'm certainly not going to be a style Nazi!
The nose is sheer Arabica Bean with traces of unsweetened cocoa...secretly inviting one to indulge with a whisper of darkly roasted secrets.
Entry shows a slight brush of CO² along the tip of the tongue...leading to a sticky-sweet start. The midtaste is nicely roasted malts (falling well short of burnt) and features a palate-pleasing mouthfeel. This beer is diacetyl-free, leaving only the slightest hint of slickness on the mouth's roof.
The finish fulfills the promise of the nose, delivering an espresso shot accented by a hint of wood and a few well-placed alcohol esters. While slightly dry, this non-nitro Porter doesn't disappoint as it fades from view.
Although this brew spent a month resting on American oak slats, the woodiness is never overpowering...for which I am thankful. 'Tis nice to have an Oak-aged example where the beer stood strong and refused to be overpowered.
