Tropical Big Ballard is a big beer with big IPA flavors to live up to the name, but with a bit of a softer touch. Brewed with mouthwatering natural Orange, Pineapple, Starfruit & Coconut, this IPA puts you at ease with every sip, as if you were on a beach in a tropical destination. Perhaps Aruba? Jamaica? Ohh I want to take you to Bermuda, Bahama, come on Captain Ballard! We’ll get there fast and take it slow! That’s where we want to go. To that place in the garage where we go to get away from it all. All aboard!

Awful attempt at yet another tropical, fruity, hazy IPA. How this went to market, I’ll never know. Avoid.

Made an account just to warn people about this beer. I have truely never disliked an IPA this much. Taste is synthetic and sickly. Poured it out after 2 sips, now to find someone to take the rest of the pack. Stay away.

I created an account just to warn folks about this beer, as I pour it down the drain. As others have noted below, this tastes like sunscreen. Hands down the worst IPA I've ever had. Yes, I should have noticed that it advertises "Orange, Pineapple, Starfruit and Coconut Flavors" on the side of the can, but usually claims of fruitiness are vastly overstated. Not the case for this beer -- it tastes like they've dribbled artificial pina colada flavoring directly into the brew. I'm just giving 1s for look, smell, and feel because the taste is so awful. No wonder it was the cheapest IPA at QFC....

Has all the characteristics of a decent beer. Good marketing, sells the tropical feel. Smells sweet, notes of vanilla. Feel in the mouth is buzzy, fuzzy, delish! And then taste...it tastes like I'm drinking a bottle of sunscreen. I love the concept of escapism, take me somewhere make me feel the pines, the ocean, the mountains. But don't take me to the beach and make me feel like I just ate a sunscreen filled ham sandwich because my wife forgot the mayo. Sorry Big B I love ya.

19.2 oz can served in a pint glass. Beer is mostly clear, with a golden yellow color, but loads of white foam and bubbles. Aroma is ambiguously sweet and fruity. I wouldn't say the flavor is particularly juicy or tropical, although there is a pretty unique aspect of coconut which I don't recall finding in a NE IPA before. There's enough bittering hops to give it a dry finish, and it actually has kind of a bitter melon rind aftertaste which I don't love. Anyway it's pretty drinkable but this one is not a hit for me... I prefer the regular Hazy Big Ballard.

19.2 oz. can , purchased from Safeway in West Salem OR.
$2.50.
Pours a cloudy (not exactly a hazy though) peach flesh coloured body. Lovely thick and creamy white head. Great lace.
Aroma is unexpectedly subdued, getting pears, strawberries and floral hops. It's nice enough though.
MMM taste is good. Its pears, grapefruit and sort of orange creamsicle taste. Interesting and tasty!
Mouth feel is medium body and slightly lowish carbonation. But it works well with this beer. No cloying after taste.
Actually, a very nice IPA. Would buy again.
