Sampled on April 30, 2011 at their Portsmouth, N.H. brewpub. The pour is a reddish-mahoganhy with a small head that disappears quickly. Slow moving carbonation. The aroma is molasses-malty. The taste is moderately sweet with a subtle hop and pepper bite at the end. Thin body.

Screw-top growler filled at the Cataqua brewpub in Portsmouth, NH.
First imperial pint pours with a 1/4" tan head, over the clear coppery brown brew. Head is quickly down to a swirly layer of small bubbles, with ample sticky lacing. Aroma is sweet, with not much else evident.
Taste begins malty, a peek of fruit in the middle, and closes with some nondescript hops bitterness. A leathery flavor lingers after the swallow, coupling with some numbness. Mouthfeel is pretty smooth, a little bite in the hops on the swallow, and drinkability is good as well. This one grows on me as the glass empties, was looking for a bit more depth of flavor though.

Shopping at the mall with my wife, I managed to convince her we needed a lunch break at Redhook. Lo and behold, a new beer. Pretty nice, too.
In a pint glass the beer was a dark amber color with an off-white head that left a good deal of lace.
Sweet caramel aroma.
Very sweet toffee and caramel taste. A hint of spice.
Maybe a little too much on the sweet side, but still a very enjoyable beer.
