Several 2 ounce samples at ACBF June 4th.
The pour was crisp, clear deep red almost rust in color. There was little to no head, almost still, yet it worked wonderfully for this beer.
The smell was phenomenal. Sweet malts, some dark fruits, bourbon and oak come through in this one. Just a touch of alcohol on the back end.
The taste mimicked the smell almost perfectly. If anything the taste may have been even better than the smell. You could pick up each and every one of the characteristics of the smell, yet they all worked together in perfect harmony to create an extremely smooth beer.
Mouth feel was excellent as well. Perfect body for a barrel aged Wee Heavy.
Overall, this was the best beer I had at the ACBF. The only bad news was that I was told this was a beer that they had brewed and actually forgotten about and would only be available at the Fest. I truly hope that they got great feedback at the fest and brew another batch of this Wee Heavy. If by any chance it is around somewhere else DO NOT MISS THIS ONE you will not regret it.
