Crafted to exceed expectations, this Protector Brewery & Trident Coffee collab blends a smooth organic dark roast Bali Blue Moon coffee & organic coconut puree with the decadence of a golden stout. Notes of sweet chocolate from the coffee and beautifully balanced hops and 2-Row barley bring out a mocha aroma to this rich, golden brew. Going organic never tasted this good.

Type: 16-oz. can

Glass: Ball 16-oz. mason jar
Price: $4.99
From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: June 28, 2020
Consumed: July 2, 2020
Misc.: Couldn’t read the canned on date
Picked this up at Windmill Farms while looking for some good ones for Nick and Mark. Thought this would be my first Protector beer, but apparently I had two tasters before, giving Organic Mosaic Hazy Pale Ale a 3.50 on June 15, 2019 and Organic Nelson Smash a 3.75 (mentioned 3.90) on Nov. 29, 2019. Got this just because of the mocha and coconut part. Sounded like a great combo. Back of the can read, “Crafted to exceed expectations, this Protector Brewery & Trident Coffee collab blends a smooth organic dark roast Bali Blue Moon coffee & organic coconut puree with the decadence of a golden stout. Notes of sweet chocolate from the coffee and beautifully balanced hops and 2-Row barley bring out a mocha aroma to this rich, golden brew. Going organic never tasted this good.” Still sounds good.
Poured a golden-to-light amber hazy color with one finger of fizzy off-white head which dissipated right away. Could see a few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Very bad lacing. Minimal retention. (Sight - 2.50)
Dark roasted coffee malts and ashtray dominated the smell, followed by char wood, mocha, bitter dark chocolate, Baker’s Chocolate, hints of toasted coconut, cacao, vanilla and hints of mint (?). A touch smoother out of the can. (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted a little better than the nose. In order got dark roasted coffee, mocha, ashtray, char wood, bitter dark chocolate, Baker’s Chocolate, cacao, vanilla and hints of toasted coconut. Grew on me as it went down. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Oily texture. Soft carbonation. Smoky, abrupt finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Was back and forth on a few of the categories here, but overall I really liked this. Outstanding. (Overall - 4.00)
