To celebrate seven years of G&G, we brewed Lucky Seven — a tribute to one of our original beers from the opening lineup — our Pineapple Rye Pale Ale.
This fresh take on a classic is a hazy, medium-bodied pale ale with Mosaic hop terpenes and pineapple ester yeast, packing bold, tangy pineapple flavors with a touch of spice and citrus from the rye malt.
It’s a brew close to our hearts, inspired by Joe’s early homebrewing experiments with pineapple and rye that helped spark the idea for Grain & Grit. Now, we’re excited to raise a glass to seven years with Lucky Seven.

473 mL can, Day 2 of Nita Beer's 2024 Advent Calendar; dated Oct 21 2024 and served barely chilled. A rye beer in the second slot? This is a brewery after my own heart.
Pours a turbid, muddled yellow colour, taking on more of an orange-golden hue when held to the light. Roughly an inch of soapy, foamy white head lasts for the better part of five minutes, eventually whittled down to a creamy, long-lasted collar and quarter-inch cap. Plenty of lace deposition, too - just a beautiful glass of beer. Big notes of fresh pineapple, orange and perfumey, floral hops, with hints of bubblegum, rye bread, papaya and pineapple upside-down cake.
Assertively flavourful for only 5%, largely thanks to the punchy pineapple flavours. There's also a soft, bready wheat backdrop, with rye graininess and citrusy hop flavours joining the fray by mid-sip. Orange, grapefruit and grassy, floral hop bitterness round out the back end, with rye and pineapple juice acidity lasting into the aftertaste. Medium in body, with lively carbonation that adds a crisp, firm bite to this brew's otherwise fluffy mouthfeel. Good drinkability: I could enjoy another glass, but I wouldn't want to drink this all night.
Final Grade: 4.05, an A-. I really liked Lucky Seven, though that's not to say it was a total home run. The pineapple adds an acidity that I found to be a little excessive, i.e. it's verging on sour enough to *maybe* get confused with a fruited kettle sour. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it does distract from the rye malt and Mosaic hop flavours - but now I'm really digging for things to complain about. This was a solid pineapple rye pale ale that I'd happily purchase again, and would also recommend to other BAs.
