Brewed with three different hop varieties from Australia and New Zealand — Nelson Sauvin, Motueka and Riwaka — this fresh batch of Good as Gold hits all of the right notes for a hazy New England-style IPA — citrusy, tropical, with the perfect amount of dankness.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. Gifted by Small Batch Dispatch for a previous shipping problem. Canned July 14/25. My 9th beer from the Hamilton, Ontario brewery, and 6th for 2025. Radically adored by Gracie the cat...

473 mL can, Day 18 of Nita Beer's 2024 Advent Calendar; dated Nov 4 2024 and served barely chilled.
Pours a foggy, translucent golden orange colour, boasting two fingers of soapy, foamy, sparkling white head that recedes at a steady pace. Four minutes later, it has been worn down to a thin cap encircled by a sudsy collar; no shortage of sticky lace clinging to the glass. Interesting aroma of gooseberry, lime, grapefruit and white wine, with hints of floral, herbal hops - I really like what I'm sniffing, but it's a little lacking in terms of potency.
A pretty nice hazy IPA: the Nelson Sauvin hops take the lead, providing notes of grape that combine with citrusy flavours of Meyer lemon, orange and lime. Pithy on the back end, with grapefruit and herbal, floral hop bitterness alongside a touch of bready, wheaty malts and fruit cup syrup sweetness; hints of apricot and white grape skin bitterness flit in and out of a fruity, citrusy aftertaste that trends off-dry. Medium-full in body, with average carbonation adding some crispness to this brew's soft, juicy mouthfeel; not too acidic/no hop burn, with good drinkability for the style.
Final Grade: 3.93, a B+. Grain & Grit's Good As Gold is a fine pale ale, and I can't find any justifiable reasons to complain about it. The aroma is a little muted, I suppose, but it's boosted by a solid trio of flavourful kiwi hops - I mean, the end result speaks for itself. I'd give this brew an edge over most of the middle-tier Ontario competition: not necessarily a world-beater, but few of my daily go-tos are, y'know? Recommended to those who love citrusy pale ales.
