DIG!"
Moderate pour yields a 1/2 inch very light tan head over an amber body with some nice, sticky lacing. Nose of slight malt, slight hops, and slight hay/grass. Taste outperforms nose with great malty (slight) sweetness checked by the hop bitterness on the finish. Nice feel and overall, a solid red ale and another fine job from South Burlington, VT. Cheers!

Acquired an attractive 16 oz. can of Mr. Fox in a recent trade. I've been pleased with several other Farnham products that I've managed to acquire in past months although they're not distributed in my home area. Red Ales are one of my favorite styles and Farnham's version more than lived up to my expectations. Maple flavor predominates but not to the point of excessive sweetness. Quite a bit different in both taste and feel from most Red Ales I've previously acquired and definitely one that I'll be seeking on my next trip to VT.

Poured into a becher pint glass.
The appearance was a ruged semi-dark amber to red color with a slim cap of a little white foamy head quickly settling off to leave some concave lace.
The aroma started off with the maple syrup, somewhat strong but also showing some balance with some chocolate malts. Light wafer/biscuity tones in the backbone.
The flavor yields to the sweetness balancing between maple syrup, chocolate and biscuity/wafer character. Mild maple syrup and chocolate in the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was pretty damn smooth. That maple syrup just smoothed this beer out so much one would think this was on nitro. With that in mind, yes, the carbonation is barely there. However, there's nothing cloying or sticky about it. Without any oats added in this, this somewhat leaves me a bit perplexed but it definitely makes me feel the need to go to the brewery.
Overall, what a damn nice red ale, modernized and clean exhibiting a maltier base and saying this style is not dead.
