Bought a can of this on vacation in Puerto Vallarta. My 14 year old son saw it on the shelf, and knew as a big Simpsons fan I'd have to bite. Well, I'm glad I could buy a single can, because to be honest, it's not good. Think of the cheapest, low budget adjunct lagers you can get in the US. Then, take a step downward and you have this version of Duff. I drank it for the novelty obviously, but unless you just want it to display the can, avoid this swill.

Ever since I shopped at the Soriana Megastore in Puerto Vallarta and purchased a handful of German lagers, I've concluded that Germans are making their second brewing invasion of Mexico. The first were the brewers that established Modelo et al in the mid-19th century after neither the Spanish nor the French were stable enough to govern Mexico. The Germans explored economic matters. Fortunately, the brewers stayed and, during the 20th Century, largely focussed more on the market instead of brewing better and, in the 21st Century, created an opening for this second German collaboration that coincides with Germany being Mexico's largest trading partner from the EU.

Based on the Duff I just drank, the second German " invasion" shouldn't last long and, hopefully, the crafters croppng up will take their place and finally give Mexicans the beer they deserve. But, I admit, that is still a hope.

Duff is a duffer (in golf lingo.) While it has a good foam initially, it is average as it ages way fast.Smells are only sweet malt, I detect no hops. Tastes are largely the same, sweet throughout and without the hops coming in at the finish. Thin-mouthed in a typically thin style. Bye-bye Duff.

Because I can't sort out who owns Duff (UnTappd says a kloisterbrewery and then a BA search has at least four contenders for the Duff name.) Nor can I tell who brought it to the Mexican market. Despite the obfuscation to me, I give them low (some) Overall Hugs.

Copenhagen 28/8 2022. 50 cl can from Lidl, Frederikssundsvej, Brønshøj. They try to emulate the can from The Simpsons with a red can with a blue and yellow logo.

Pours clear yellow with a mid-sized white head. Stable. Settles as thin, almost transparent layer of foam struggling to cover the surface of the beer. Crawling up the sides of the glass. Moderate lacing.

Aroma is moderately intense with a malty odor mingling with a metallic scent. Sweet pale malts, starch, bread and glue. Metallic tin foil.

Light carbonation. Thin, oily, soft yet lightly tingling texture,

Flavor is medium intense with rather strong sweetness followed by a moderately strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with a salty tang. Lingers for a bit. Finish is semi-dry.

Cheap, sweet and malty Lager Beer. I surely Can Get Enough of That Wonderful Duff.

Head dissipates quickly and has that distinctive hop extract flavour like a UK brewed Heineken. Clearly brewed cheaply but only worth buying for the novelty effect

Tall boy can poured into a tumbler. Purchased at a Lidl in Toulouse, France.
There’s no pronouncements to make here. Bought it because of the name. I’d had a different ‘Duff’ draft beer at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida a couple of years ago. I like to think that one is what Homer drinks.
Kinda funny that it sloshes out looking the same as when it went in.,.
This isn’t very good.

My Duff says that it is produced by Eichbaum GmbH, but anyway, the photo looks exactly the same, so I guess it's the same beer. I just drank a Frankenhaler Brauhaus Zahringer pilsner which is also brewed by Eichbaum GmbH. Maybe they are similar, let's find out! Supposedly it's a Hell, and only has hops extract. Usually not a good sign, and hops is the healthiest part of beer.

Never really watched the Simpsons, I only watch The X Files and South Park. But I do like beer. So let's give this a try.

Looks very similar to the Zahringer, maybe the bubbles are a little smaller. Aroma is possibly a little more malty and less hoppy. Not great.

It's definitely a different beer. Much much sweeter and less bitterness from the "hop extract". It has some taste, but the sweetness unfortunatey overwhelms the hops. It's almost like a children's beer. And beer isn't for children. Bad Frankenhaler.

Not the worst beer ever, and I wasn't expecting this to be good, especially when Duff in English means "very poor quality" according to the Oxford English dictionary. And it is very poor quality. Which is what I expected. However the same brewers make a much better beer, mentioned above.

For the first time ever, this is a "Lagerbier Hell" where the hell doesn't refer to the style ; )

Still, it's ok. I am still drinking it ; ) Because it's beer and I am bored. I think the other reviewers probably love Homer more than me, and their love for a man more stupid than them has clouded their judgement ; )

Apart from it's name/style blind-tasted.
L- Pale golden, clear, pours with a 1Cm pillowy white head. Sustains notably well + good rising CO2.
S- Mild, possibly a bit of a whiff of adjunct.
T- Underwhelming front-end, some hops, lots of the taste of CO2 (like soda water), some hoppy bitterness and then a bit of an adjuncty 'carbs, just not malts' finish.
F- Dry, light, rather artifical tasting.
O- I can't say the can didn't warn me, just it's without irony, this really is quite a duff beer. It reminds me of a discounters-supermarket own brand beer. Cheap tasting, all rather artificial etc. Not one I'd wish to drink again.
Not 100% sure where I bought this but it's quite likely it was at B+M in Cambridge/UK. 500ml can BB: 21/12/22
p.s. Ingredients are listed as 'Water, barley malt, hop extract'.

Review: 0,5l red can of Duff Beer: 4.9% vol.

“The Legendary Duff Beer” is how this beer is marketed! From Germany, and they call it a craft beer on their site, cheeky buggers!

Comes in a can or a bottle. I got mine in a can from Lidl no doubt!

“The legendary beer”, is written on the distinctive looking can, all red and bits of blue, fairly colourful anyway. But no mention of the actual Simpsons show, Homer, or in fact who the brewery is. Very ominous.

With no real link to the show, its obvious this brewery is taking the mick, but anyhow lets get stuck in.

Very carbonated on pour, all fizzing away no end, resulting in a very nice and white frothy headed beer that has a nice clear golden colour. Some slight lacing going on. The beer manages to maintain its head throughout. Overall its a pretty decent looking beer. A good start!.

On the nose I get a lot of malts, grains and cereals, overall a general clean lager smell. Standard smell, not bad, not great, ok but faint enough.

Get a lot in the can which is great. But whats not so great is the taste, very dish watery, not great at all.

Tastes like a low grade regular lager, the corn and grains are detected, but not as smooth and a bit “urgh” if I am to be honest. Not as smooth as you would like, bit too bitter and metallic for my liking.

Forgettable lager really. No real taste to it. It is ok I guess but overall just nothing for it to stand out in the mass market of boring lagers………….except of course its name!

Perhaps that is the whole point? Make a light lager that is even worse than most beers. Sure isn’t that what Homer would be drinking? But something tells me that is not what they were gunning for. They really could have made more of an effort I think, they have a great name and are from traditional beer kings, Germany and they produce this? Tsk!
