an interesting recipe here, lots and lots of spicy fresh ginger in a copper colored strong ale, its intense in both aroma and flavor, and any sweetness or light springy character from the honey is pretty easily overwhelmed by it. even though the ginger and the honey are not equal players here, that is not to say there isnt some balance, especially with the malt in the mix here, which is sweet and nutty, takes the edge off of the ginger a little bit. a more pronounced citrus blossom or wildflower element from the honey would be a cool nuance though. i thought the alcohol was a little exposed in this one too, like the ginger brings it out quite a bit, fine in colder winter weather, but i could see this getting heavy and slow in the warmer months. it also has less carbonation than most of the rest of the beers they had going in here when we were in, so its not a quick drink either way. i like the powerful ginger, its obviously the real thing, and its a nice way to feature it, but the rest of the beer doesnt really do much for me, and the ginger doesnt seem well integrated into any sort of whole. one of my least favorites from our visit here.
