Sampling a cellar temp 32 oz crowler of this beer. It is a gift from my friend Rebecca, Thank you!
Pouring the beer into my snifter. The beer pours a pitch black color with a dense, creamy tan head of 3 cm foaming up on a gentle pour. The foam slowly fades to a sturdy surface layer with tight edging and leaves some windowpane lattice after each sip of the brew.
The aroma is rich and malty with dark chocolate, brown sugar and definitely some molassess scents. I also get a little bit of a charred malt note. Dont get any hop presence and the 10% is pretty hidden on the nose.
First sip reveals an average to thick body with minimal, soft and spacious carbonation. Little bit of a coating on my palate after each swallow.
Flavor is big and malty as would be expected with brown sugar, and molasses. The dark chocolate and roasted note is to the point of being bitter like a coffee ground. This bitterness lingers after each swallow and slows the drinkability for me a little bit. I dont get any hop character and the booze is pretty well hidden with no warming on the swallow or black peppery hit.
I think this is a good imperial stout that is heavily malt forward as expected, I would like the molasses to keep the flavor a little sweeter but otherwise this is a nice big malty brew from a little CT brewery.
