Picked up two crowlers of this beer at the brewery. Beer is a "collab" with Weathered Souls and the proceeds from the sales are going to CT-CORE, an organization which is dedicated to building communities of racial justice freedom fighters to dismantle systemic and structural racism in the State of CT.
Im glad to support the brewery and this organization with my purchase.
Im sampling at cellar temp and poured into my snifter. The beer pours a a dark black coffee color into my glass with no light passing through when I hold the glass up to a lamp.
A frothy yet fluffy khaki colored head foams up 3 cm even with a gentle pour, and I need to slow down to prevent an overflow of foam. This foam settles to a sturdy surface layer after just a minute or two and leaves windowpane lattice when I swirl the glass or take a sip of the beer.
Aroma is rich and malty with dark chocolate, coconut, a bit of coffee grounds and general roasted malt notes. The coconut is the most strong aroma, but it is not overpowering on a balanced nose. Hops dont make any appearance here.
The first sip reveals a medium body with sticky texture and fine yet soft carbonation. The beer coats my palate after each sip. This beer feels good in my mouth.
Flavor is what I expect from the nose and the brewery description. I get some roasted malt and a bit of charred coffee mixing with brown sugar and coconut flavors. The coconut lingers after the swallow each time and again, the hops dont make an appearance.
The ABV is 10% and is completely hidden throughout the sampling. A nice imperial stout from a solid brewery in CT.
